Summary

SSLs vary. Standard SSL (protects a domain, not subdomains) and Wildcard SSL (protect a domain and all its subdomains)

SSL categories

Domain-validated certificates (DVSSLS)

One-time validation is normal. DV SSLs are ideal for small websites like blogs, personal sites, or simple presentation sites, but not eCommerce.

Organization-validated certificates (OVSSLS)

Small to medium web businesses should use OV SSLs. Customers will know the certificate is from your company and the domain is yours. Usernames and passwords are encrypted.

Extended-validity certificates (EVSSL)

When you hold large data, such as customer addresses or credit card numbers, you should use an EV SSL Certificate. By using this certificate, the browser’s address bar will become green, indicating which sites have the most security and vetting.
